We are Kevin & Lorraine Winslet and we have two Staffordshire Bull Terriers Ella, a ten year old bitch and Jim a 3 year old dog.

Our experience...

We ran a residential home which was on a busy road and we had a problem with visitors leaving the gates open constantly, even though we had a 'please shut the gate sign'.

About 5 years ago I made a homemade sign which read For Dog's Sake - Shut the Gate with a photo of Ella on it.
 
It worked! No-one left the gate open again.

We believe the sign really did get to the heart and the conscience of the visitor or resident that came to the home.
Why we started FDS...

About three years ago a close friend of ours opened his door to a caller. His normally obedient, placid Belgium Shepherd spotted a cat (we think) and ran straight out into the road (through the gate the caller had left open) and was killed by a passing car.

Imagine how he felt... How the caller felt...

We said at that time that if we ever get the time, we will produce these signs so that other dogs can benefit from them as our dogs have.

We took semi retirement in November 2005 and only work two days a week now. The time is now right for us to produce our safety messages.
